anniversary poem
for the buffalo wallow fight

by

Lance Henson

at three a m in a snowstorm near limon colorado
two years ago
the shrouded figures of coyotes
crossed in front of the headlights

pulling to the side of the road
in a poignant sorrow I wept
placing tobacco upon their tracks

ski oh hiv hotomitoneo
na me ho

our dog ropes are still in the ground

little fingernail dog soldier
