My Return from Nam

by

When I came home,
When I came home,

It was like

falling from the sky.

One night,

 just falling from the sky.

One night

I fell to earth again
right into mom & dad's
front yard.

I fell to earth again

right onto mom & dad's
nicely trimmed yard

And,

I did not spill a drop.

When I came home,

When I came home,

It was like

falling from dark sky

One night,

just falling out of the dark

One night,

I fell from the darkness
right into mom & dad's
front yard

I fell from the darkness

right onto mom & dad's
nicely trimmed yard.

And,

I did not spill a drop

One night, when I came home,

One night, when I came home,

It was like,

I fell from the sky.

Falling,

from the sky.

Just falling,

from dark skies
right into mom & dad's
home sweet home.

from dark skies

right into mom & dad's
nicely arranged home.

And,

I did not spill a drop.

One night, when I came home,

One night, when I came home,

It was like,

a stranger fell from the sky

One night,

someone strange fell from the sky.

One night,

a stranger fell
right into mom & dad's
front yard.

someone strange fell

right into mom & dad's
nicely trimmed yard.

And,

He did not spill a drop.

One day, when a stranger came home,

One day, when a stranger came home,

It was like,

he fell from the sky.

One day,

this guy landed
right in mom & dad's
American Dream

this guy landed

right on mom & dad's
American Pie.

And,

he did not spill a drop.

Once, when someone who looked like me, came home,

Once, when someone who looked like me, came home,

It was like,

he fell from the sky.

Once,

This guy came home from Vietnam
and had forgotten
who he was.

Once,

this guy fell out of the darkened sky
full of anger, fear
and hate.

Once,

this guy drank of the cup of WAR.

And,

he did not spill a drop.

One day, many years after a stranger came home,

One day, many years after a stranger came home,

He stood up

and looked into his heart.

He stood up

and tried to raise the sky.

Many years after he came home

he raised the sky
and drank of the cup of healing
and forgiveness

And,

he did not spill a drop.
