The Chacmool is not found at pure Maya sites. It is an addition, found here at Chichén Itzá, as an import from the more northerly Toltec culture. The reclining figure holds a plate like object over its abdomen. It is speculated that these plates were to hold the hearts of the sacrificed victims.
