A Love Song for Eddie

by Kim Shuck
Poking through grandma's boxed inheritance
Broken toys
Wonder leaked with
Glitter filled water
A stain
On the bottom of the box
Periodic reflected light
From a stray fleck

Now that we have named
Now that it is mapped
Associations assigned
Now that
I have learned to wear formal clothes
Now that I've stopped juggling
On sidewalks downtown
I investigate the box

A green plastic hump of scenery
Senseless out of context
A heap of plastic bits
Wooden widgets
Things that I never played with
Clown princess reasserts
Pokes me hard in the middle
I get my tools out; she always did enjoy small pieces
